Paddlesport Touring Leader Award

Training Course: £200pp

Assessments for these awards usually run over 2 days, with up to 4 candidates - one day in open water and one on a river.

Assessments Cost £250pp, Max of 4 (Needing a minimum of 2 to run)

1-2 Candidate 1 Day Assessment's £ 225 for 2 candidates £ 310 for single candidate

(Prices are based on approximately 150miles travel from the midlands, Nottingham area and may need to change to accommodate fuel etc if further.) Unless location is stated on advertisement

  • Do you want to be able to lead mixed craft in both of the environments above?!

If so, the Paddle sports Touring Leader could be for you!

A Touring leader, is usually an individual who will give a paddler their first amazing experience on both open and moving water trips and with any luck give them the bug to want to do more at Whitewater ways we will do our best to ensure you can do just that!

Over the duration of the training course we will cover:

  • How to deliver inspirational trips

  • Various ways to profile your group (even before they arrive)

  • Trip Planning

  • Delivering appropriate Safety briefs for mixed fleet in both environments

  • River reading and description to enable your group to make their own decisions

  • A range of leader ship strategies

  • Incident management and benchmarking personal skills

  • Rescue skills in open water and how understand and harness the conditions

  • Setting up basic rats and towing options

  • Simple sailing setups 

 

Equipment you will need:

  • A suitable craft  or two with plenty of buoyancy.

  • A suitable paddle

  • Whitewater helmet

  • Buoyancy aid suitable for white water.

  • Sturdy footwear and appropriate clothing such as dry suit and thermals or Wetsuit and Splits.


 

Extras to think about:

  • Layers of warm clothing 

  • Lunch 

  • Hot drink
